The club exists to promote and develop safe and responsible air rifle and pistol shooting. To this end, the club has two qualified BFTA Field Target instructors, who undertake tuition and coaching of both existing club members and visitors to the shooting ground.

Company description
Milton Keynes Air Rifle Club was formed in 1999 to provide a local venue for the safe enjoyment of air rifle shooting sports. The club is affiliated to the Fenland Field Target Association and through them, to the British Field Target Association. Field Target shooting originated just over 25 years ago. It involves shooting at steel targets like the one illustrated to the right of this text (crow shape), at ranges between 8 and 55 yards (7 – 50 meters). The small white disc in the centre is 1.6 inches across (40 mm) and this is the knock down zone. A hit in the knock down zone will collapse the target and score one point; hitting the black (known as the face plate) scores no points.
A more recent form of Field Target shooting known as HFT will score two points for a knock down and one for a face plate. All shooting is carried out using air rifles or air pistols which do not exceed the legal power limits defined in the 1968 Firearms Act as requiring a “Firearms Certificate” (FAC). The club currently has around 50 members and is run by a committee comprising of a chairman, a vice chairman, a secretary, a treasurer and two other committee members. The club meets on Sunday morning for regular shoots, when practice, instruction and internal club competitions take place. The emphasis is on safety, enjoyment and improvement.
The club operates on a non-discrimination basis. Infractions of safety rules cannot be tolerated and offenders may be excluded. The club hosts a round of the regional Field Target winter league, when shooters from neighbouring clubs compete for individual and club honours; at such shoots, there may be 30 – 50 competitors taking part. We are also encouraging a small number of “friendly” inter-club shoots with neighbouring clubs who are outside our designated region. The club has full third party liability insurance to a limit of £5, 000, 000 arranged through the BFTA.
